Principal's Message

Week of September 25

Hello Marshall Families,

The buzz around school last week was all the bees on campus.  We do seem to have more bees flying around than usual.  The school district is aware of the situation and has sent a pest technician out to the school.  So far, no hives have been found.  It is believed the bees are coming from the vegetation that completely surrounds the campus.  A wet winter led to more plants and more blooms, which means more insects.

The amount of trash left behind in the lunch courts doesn’t help with the bee situation.  In general, students have done a poor job cleaning up after themselves at lunch this year.  Bees (and ants) are drawn to the wrappers and garbage that is left behind.  We would appreciate it if you could encourage students to place their trash in the numerous trash bins in the lunch areas.

Parents can learn more about Blocksi, which is a class management tool that allows teacher to monitor and control the Chromebooks in their classrooms.  SDUSD is now testing the feature to allow parents to control their child’s Chromebook when it is off campus. This short video explains in further detail how to use the parent dashboard. To start using the parent dashboard, go to and follow the instructions below. You must sign in with the email address you have in PowerSchool.

As of Friday, we have had only 55% of families complete the LCFF Survey.  The survey has a direct impact on the amount of funding Marshall Middle School receives from the state.  Our goal is 100% completion.  This is money the school depends on to provide services for students, so please complete the survey if you have not done so already.  We only need one survey per family.  Here is how. The LCFF online form is available under a parent account and NOT on the student’s account. MMS appreciates your support!

Friday marks the end of the first progress report grading period. Report cards will be sent electronically, so be sure to set that up under your PowerSchool parent portal Document Delivery Settings and add [email protected] to your safe senders list.

I hope you’ve had a great weekend!
