Welcome Back Mustangs!
As the principal of Marshall Middle School, I am excited to share that our staff is eager to start down a new path in the 2022/23 school year. Since March of 2020, students, staff, and families have been challenged and stretched beyond imagination. Despite the most disruptive eras in the field of education, we still have much to celebrate. Collectively, our students and staff have accomplished and overcome tremendous adversity. The struggle is a part of our individual story, a story that is relevant and important to our collective story as Mustangs. The 2022/23 school-year is about opening doors, leveraging a newfound energy to return to what we do best; producing the highest academic outcomes in San Diego County. Yet, the organizational, social, and political tumult of the last two years has also opened our collective eyes to the inequities and tension in our educational system. As a school community, so long as we put the learning needs of every child first, together we can find common ground and a path forward. We are excited to see what new exceptional outcomes our Mustang staff can generate for all of our learning community.
As we approach each new school year, we are reminded of our mission:
“provide a learning environment that will enable each student to reach his/her highest potential...”
How do we define that “potential” at Marshall? We define it as reaching world-class levels of performance, for every student, with the systemic capacity for sustainable growth.
At Marshall, we take a three-pronged approach: Excellence, Equity, and Efficiency.
Most importantly, we want students to LOVE coming to school. Whether that’s because of the academic challenges overcome, making new social connections, or because they’ve connected to a club or a sport, we want this experience to be one where they thrive and rediscover the joy of learning.
We wish everyone a fantastic 2022/23 school year! Go Mustangs!
